Do you stress out before a test? It is natural to get nervous on such an occasion, especially after hours of studying and preparation. But too much stress can keep you from doing well. If anxiety interferes with your studying or your test taking abilities, you may have test anxiety.
If you do have test anxiety, you may experience some of these:
- Difficulty getting started when attempting to study
- You get distracted easily
- Low expectations for success
- Headaches, nausea, tension, etc., when taking a test
- You can’t remember things or have difficulty organizing your thoughts
You can do something about test anxiety. It doesn’t always have to be a struggle!

- Use good study techniques.
- Maintain a positive attitude
- Be well rested and well fed
- Stay relaxed and don’t panic
- Take your time; don’t rush to get the test done
- Analyze your results when you get the test back; think about what you can differently the next time
