Strayer Alum Featured in Redbook Magazine
Marthe Lewis, one of Strayer University’s 2009 MBA graduates, is being featured in Redbook magazine.
Marthe Lewis was nine years old when her impoverished family sent her to America from the Ivory Coast, to pursue a better life. However, these dreams were crushed, when she became isolated and abused in her new home.
After finally running away at the age of 16, she entered a foster care program. She moved through 5 homes in three years, but that didn’t stop her from completing her high school education. She completed high school in those three years, going on to college and obtaining her MBA here at Strayer University.
Marthe’s history encouraged her to help others. In 2007, she started the LivvieLove Foundation, named after her daughter Olivia. Her goal is to help young adults who are emerging from the foster care system. She teaches them things that she was forced to learn on her own: how to open a checking account or how to rent an apartment. She also hopes to teach them to believe in her own personal mantra: “My life’s condition is not my life’s conclusion.”
