Balance and Self-Care

The one thing that seems to be the easiest to give away when you add continuing education to your list of responsibilities is self-care. Yet, if you don’t take care of yourself, you can’t take care of anything or anyone else.

  • Build some sort of fitness activity into your weekly schedule. Try not to make it a chore, but rather something you look forward to doing.
  • Make a list of 100 things you love to do and then do at least one a week.
  • You need diversions, and taking time for yourself is a great way to recharge your battery while in school.
  • Eat a balanced diet, and do not skip meals.
  • Get the sleep you need to function at your personal best.
  • Maintain relationships with your friends. While earning your degree, you may not have as much time for them as you normally have, but friends are still an important source of support for you.
